The management of Thomas McGettrick Institute of Technology, Ogoja has revealed plans to upgrade the institution into a full-fledged University.
The Institute located in Moniaya, Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River State, is set to be changed to Thomas McGattrick University, Ogoja this year, 2024.
This was revealed recently to CrossRiverWatch by Reverend Father Peter Obele Abue, Vicar General, Administration and Chairman, Further Studies Commission of the Ogoja Catholic Diocese after wrapping up a collaboration deal with the Franciscan University of Steubenville in Ohio, United States America.
Video footage shows the Rev. Father having talks with partners about the project in which he mentioned that; “when I thought of a University, John said ‘on account of the discipline, the educational qualities of this University and all that’. this is what another Catholic University overseas needs.
“So, hopefully, with the Core Africa programs through the little funds we have had from, especially basic sponsors, we are tempted to think that if there are more people collaborating, more things would be done.”
Also speaking on the project, John Staley, a benefactor and philanthropist in the United States, said Father Donatus “has got bigger plans as well.”
The collaboration includes establishing a University, a Micro Finance Bank, and a Printing Press.
The idea is said to make a difference in the lives of young people on both sides of the globe and to carry out the evangelical mission of the church through the University.
