The Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has nominated Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong Jrn. representing Cross River Southern senatorial district as a Member/Delegate to the ECOWAS Parliament.
Senator Ekpenyong’s nomination was contained in a letter signed by the Clerk of the Nigerian Senate, Sani Magaji Tambawal, and dated 19th February 2024. Before his senatorial election, Senator Epenyong was a former Cross River State Finance Commissioner, and also a Governorship aspirant.
Senator Ekpenyong’s term at the ECOWAS Parliament, according to the letter of nomination, “shall run concurrently” with his “term in the Senate”. The ECOWAS Parliament will be inaugurated on the 9th of March, 2024.
The letter reads in parts, “I have the pleasure to inform you that His Excellency, the President of the Senate has nominated you as a Member/Delegate to ECOWAS Parliament. The Headquarters of the ECOWAS Parliament is at Abuja, International Conference Centre, Garki, Abuja.
“The terrain at the ECOWAS Parliament shall run concurrently with your term in the Senate. The ECOWAS Parliament will be inaugurated on 9th March 2024.
“Therefore, you are kindly requested to submit a copy of your Curriculum Vitae on or before 1″ March 2024, to the Directorate of Interparliamentary Relations and Protocol for onward submission to the ECOWAS Parliament for further action. May I also inform you that Management has made adequate arrangements to collect all relevant documents for you. Ccngratulatiöns.”
