Easter: Police To Crackdown ‘One Chance’ Syndicates In Cross River

The Cross River State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has vowed to crack down on criminal elements operating in the State, most especially the “one chance” syndicates.

The Commissioner of Police in the State, CP Gyogon Grimah in a release issued through the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, frowned at the activities of the syndicates who operate by luring unsuspecting victims into vehicles under pretenses as commercial drivers, only to rob them of their belongings or even subject them to violence.

The Police Boss averred that the criminal’s activities have not only caused fear among residents but also tarnished the State’s reputation.

While urging the public to report suspicious activities in their environment, he disclosed that special operations targeting known hotspots and routes frequently used by the syndicates are underway.

The release: “The Commissioner Of Police, Cross River State Command has issued a stern warning to criminal elements operating within the state, particularly the “one chance” syndicate. With recent reports of incidents involving “one chance” syndicate, the Commissioner has declared a crackdown to rid the state of this menace.

“The CP noted that the “one chance” syndicate operates by luring unsuspecting victims into vehicles under false pretenses, only to rob them of their belongings or even subject them to violence. This criminal activity has not only caused fear among residents but has also tarnished the state’s reputation. Upon the above, the CP has deployed additional resources and intensified surveillance efforts across the state, especially this Easter Season.

“In the same vein, special operations targeting known hotspots and routes frequented by the syndicate are underway.

“Furthermore, the Commissioner has urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to authorities promptly. The CP emphasized the commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. “we will leave no stone unturned in our efforts to dismantle this criminal network and bring those responsible to justice.”

“The CP also called for collaboration and support from the public, urging residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and provide valuable information that could lead to the apprehension of the perpetrators.

“Consequently, as the Cross River State Police Command intensifies its efforts to combat crime before, during, and after the 2024 Easter celebration, the Commissioner assures residents that measures are in place to restore peace and tranquility across the State.

“At this juncture, the CP enjoined all and sundry to call the following helplines: Control Room Number -08133568456, Complaint Response Unit- 07067977330, or the information boxes at the Area Commands and Divisional Headquarters respectively in case of emergence of distress please.”
