VIDEO: Exit Route Blocked As Fuel Tanker Explodes In Calabar

Firefighters on Monday night successfully stopped the spread of fire which erupted after a tanker suspected to have been laden with petroleum products went up in flames in Calabar, the Cross River State Capital.

The incident occurred a few meters before Lemna junction along the major exit route out of Calabar.

Eyewitnesses say some residents had gathered and were scooping products out of the tanker before it went up in flames.

And, firefighters were called in.

“They successfully put out the fire, what I am seeing right now is just smoke billowing from what is left of the tanker,” a staff of a business located about 150 meters away told  via telephone at 10:08 PM.

Also, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gyogon Grimah in a message to CrossRiverWatch confirmed the fire has been put out.

“The fire has been put off but the road is not safe for motorists this night. Traffic is being diverted to alternative routes,” CP Grimah said.
