In a significant development, the organized Labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC), and affiliated unions, has announced the suspension of the indefinite strike for one week.
Labour had on the wee hours of Monday, June 3rd, 2024, embarked on an industrial action to press home their demands.
The TUC president Festus Osifo on Tuesday morning in Abuja said Labour has agreed to suspend the action after a joint extraordinary national executive council meeting of the unions.
“A joint NEC meeting of TUC/NLC has approved to relax the industrial action for one week with immediate effect,” Osifo told Channels Television.
They are demanding a reversal of the hike in electricity tariff to N225/kwh back to N65/kwh and a stoppage of the” apartheid categorization of consumers into Bands.
A nationwide one-day protest was staged on the 13th day of May 2024 to give the government until the last day of May 2024 to take action “but the government has not entirely shown any positive response despite the national outrage at this insensitive hike.”

After a total shutdown on Monday, a series of meetings were held with the federal government for a reasonable agreement.
Labour disclosed that they have reached a four-point resolution with the federal government, which includes President Tinubu pledging to pay above sixty thousand (60,000) Naira as the new national minimum wage.
