The Government of Cross River State, has ordered the immediate suspension of the proposed National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) election.

The State Security Adviser, Major General O. U Obono (Rtd) gave the directive in a letter addressed to the State Secretariat of the NYCN youth house, Calabar, stating that the election scheduled for June 19, 2024 be suspended to avoid breach of security in the  State.

NYCN State council has been clouded with crisis with the build up to the election; a situation political analysts and astrologers predict violence, as previous election was said to have been marred.

Major Obono called on all sister security agencies in the State to clampdown on individuals or groups of persons found contravening the directive.

“I write to inform you that the Youth Council Elections slated to hold on the 19th June 2024, if allowed to take place, would cause a breach of security in the state. In view of this, this office strongly advise that you suspend the event to allow for amicable resolution of the contending issues before proceeding.

“You are please encouraged to heed this advice to preclude a breakdown of law and order in the State as anything in the contrary would not be entertained. Treat it as important and accept my warm regards always.”
