The Deputy Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Honorable Sylvester Agabi Jnr, will on Friday, July 26, 2024, flag off the distribution of food items including rice, beans, and garri in the northern senatorial district of the State.
Recall that the Federal Government in line with its Renewed Hope Agenda recently released about 740 trucks of rice and other food items to cushion the effects of hunger Nigerians are grappling with across the country.
Hon. Agabi Jnr, representing the Obudu State Constituency in the Cross River State House of Assembly, will represent the State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu in the Northern senatorial district during the distribution.
The food items currently under the custody of the Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (CR-SEMA) will be released to the various senatorial districts for distribution to Cross Riverians.
Also, the distribution exercise will be held at the ADB House in Ogoja Local Government Area as 5400 bags of the food items will be distributed across the 54 wards of the five local government areas of the North – Bekwarra, Obanliku, Obudu, Ogoja, and Yala.
According to the distribution template, Bekwarra, Obanliku, Obudu and Ogoja LGAs with 10 wards will receive 1000 bags each, while Yala LGA with 14 wards will get 1400 bags of the food items.
Notable leaders expected to be in attendance during the distribution exercise including, State House of Assembly members, Hon. Thomas Aruku (Ogoja), Hon. Charles Omang (Bekwarra LGA), Hon. Pius Ashak (Obanliku), Hon. Odey Brian (Yala 1) and Hon. Ochadu (Yala 2).
Others are, Honourable Commissioners; Senator Stephen Odey (Education), Dr. (Mrs.) Beatrice Igwe (Housing), Hon. Mike Odere (Finance), Patrick Egbede (Wealth Creation and Employment); Dr. Justine Beshel (Science and Technology), Dr. Mathias Unimke Angioha (Industries), Hon. Agnes Atsu (Sports Development) and Dr. Hippolatus Ogar Lukpata (International Donor Coordination).
Also expected to attend is the Head of Local Government Administration from the five local government areas of the North.
Traditional Rulers, Community Relations Officers of the five LGAs, APC Chapter Chairmen, and other political stakeholders are all expected to attend.
