Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State presided over the $350 million Grandlitora Railway Project groundbreaking ceremony at the Tinapa Resort in Calabar, marking a key step toward enhancing transportation and investment prospects in the state.

Prominent state officials including House of Assembly members and Speaker Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, among others.

One of the state’s most significant infrastructure projects is said to be the Grandlitora Railway Project. Substations in Ugep, Ikom, and Ogoja will be part of the project, which will begin in Calabar and end in Obudu. Three hundred and fifty million dollars is the estimated total cost of the project, with a stipulated period of five years.

The significance of the railway project was emphasized in a speech by Governor Otu, who said that it will give Cross Riverians a contemporary and effective substitute for automobile travel. This is said to facilitate the flow of people and products around the state and boost economic activity by drawing in new capital.

Governor Otu said the revolutionary project symbolizes dedication to enhancing infrastructure, which is essential for development and economic prosperity. When finished, it will provide Cross Riverians with new opportunities and establish Cross River State as a hub for investment.

It is anticipated that the project will greatly enhance state-wide transportation, shorten travel times, and ease the strain on the current road system. By promoting trade and drawing companies to the regions connected by the railway, it is also well-positioned to aid in the socioeconomic growth of the state, he added.
