The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, CP Gyogon Augustine Grimah, has flagged off a special training exercise for Personnel attached to Very Important Persons (VIPs) in the state.
Flagging off the training at Mobile Police 11 Squadron base in Calabar, he said the training is important for officers who engage in day-to-day protection of life and properties especially those attached to personalities.
The over 150 officers drawn from the Government House, Calabar, and the State Command, will embark on the two weeks of VIP combat training in physical fitness exercise, unarmed combat, tactical, and other operational training.
The Command said the training is one of its kind in the history of the Command.
The special contingents are from the Special Protection Unit, Counter Terrorism Unit, Police Mobile Force, Department of Operations, State Intelligence Bureau, Explosive Ordnance Disposal, and Information Communication Technology.
Speaking during the flag-off, CP Grimah thanked God for the gift of life of all Police officers in the State and in the country, especially officers who have been selected for the training.
He stressed that men of the Force must refresh themselves in training to meet up with the ever-evolving world, intelligence, and tactics.
CP Grimah explains that the job they are called to do is not an ordinary job, hence, they are not expected to undergo ordinary training as the nature of the training, both in the classroom and outside the classroom is both quantitative and qualitative.
While charging on the trainees to be dedicated and pass through the process, he prayed God to preserve them during the exercise as training of such nature sometimes records casualties.
More than a dozen tactical obstacles will be used in the training.
The exercise will take place in Calabar, Akpabuyo, and other Local Government Areas of the state, which will include long-range shootings among others.
Highlights of the flag-off include the inspection of guards, inspections of the training kits and facilities, and equipment.
