The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Elvert Ayambem, has welcomed two lawmakers, Hon. Martins Achadu and Hon. Brian Odey, who decamped from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Martins Achadu, who represents Yala 2 State Constituency, defected to the APC in his hometown of Ijiraga ward.
Speaking at the event, Speaker Ayambem described the move as a timely and strategic decision for the party and the “People’s First” administration.
He said there is need to have experienced leaders like Hon. Achadu onboard, stating, “This defection marks a turning point for our party, as we continue to build a stronger and more dynamic political force to meet the needs of Cross Riverians.”
Hon. Brian Odey of Yala 1 State Constituency also threw the PDP towel to align with the ruling party in Yahe Ward. Speaker Ayambem, receiving Hon. Odey, expressed delight in the lawmaker’s decision to change allegiance.
“Hon. Brian’s arrival is not only a personal joy for me but it is also a victory for the APC. His dedication and commitment to his constituents will undoubtedly contribute to the growth and success of our party.”
Ayambem said the defections are an indication of the growing confidence in the APC’s leadership and vision for Cross River State. He added that the party is a “big and welcoming family,” and with the addition of Achadu and Odey, it will pull strings to deliver on its promises to Cross Riverians.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Matthew Okache, Ayambem crusaded for more members.
