The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced a nationwide major protest on 15th September 2024, over the current fuel hike and hardship across the country.
In a statement, the Senate President of NANS, Senator Okunomo Henry Adewumi, said the incessant increase in fuel prices has caused “untold hardship” to Nigerians and demands an immediate reversal of the fuel price hike and the removal of NNPC Director General Mele Kyari.
NANS calls on all Nigerian students across the country to wake up to the clarion call, as they set to occupy all major cities on the said date. The students noted that they can no longer be silenced, or intimidated and “shall rise in unison to demand a better deal for Nigerian students and the masses.”
The student body urges all students taking part in the proposed protest to take necessary measures to maintain law and order during the shutdown, as “we assure you that our protest will be peaceful and lawful.”
