A bill seeking to create Ogoja State from Cross River State has passed its second reading in the House of Representatives.
The proposed legislation, co-sponsored by the member representing Ogoja/Yala Federal Constituency of Cross River State, Godwin Offiono, and three other lawmakers, aims to alter the 1999 Constitution to carve a new state in the South-South geopolitical zone.
The legislation also seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution to facilitate the creation of the new state.
The bill scaled through the second reading via a voice vote conducted by the Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas,
It has been referred to the Committee on Constitutional Review for further consideration.
Seen as a significant step towards the creation of Ogoja State, its outcome will be closely watched after the review
