The Government of Cross River State, has warned residents of the State to desist from bonfires and burning of tyres during the 31’st night.
This was contained in a press statement signed and made available by the Commissioner for Information in the State, Erasmus Ekpang who emphasized that the ban of tyres and other inflammable materials on asphalt roads and streets is still in force.
“As we approach the new year, 2025, the Government of Cross River State wishes to remind all residents that the total ban on burning tyres and other inflammable materials to create bonfires on asphalted roads and streets remains in effect.”
Ekpang said the reminder became imperative following intelligence reports on plans by some residents to set up bonfires through burning tyres and other inflammable materials on roads and streets to welcome 2025.
The State government urges residents to “be aware that the smoke from these bonfires is harmful to citizens’ health, and the bonfires and other inflammable materials can cause significant damage, leading to potholes and gullies on the roads.”
Traditional rulers and opinion leaders in communities are advised to warn their children and wards to refrain from such acts for the overall good of the dear state,” as security agencies have been placed on alert to prevent such scenes.
The plea added: “Residents of our state are kindly advised to take note and act accordingly. Let us not contribute to the destruction of our roads, on which significant funds have been spent. Continue to Think Cross River State!”
