The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on Wednesday officially decorated the newly promoted Deputy Inspector-General of Police, representing the South-South zone, Jonathan Towuru at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
Towuru served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 6 command between 2022 and 2024 December when he was elevated being the most senior AIG from the South-South zone in line with police rules and federal character.
Described as a no-nonsense cop, who doesn’t joke about welfare, discipline and ethical practice, Towuru joined the force in 1990 and has a few months left to retire.
The decoration event, held at the Louis Orok Edet House also had his wife, daughter, friends and the Police Management Team in attendance.

In a related development, the IGP has ordered his immediate posting to the Force Criminal Investigation Department, FCID.
This is, “aimed at enhancing the contributions of the department towards efficient and effective policing in the country,” a statement signed by Police spokesman, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi issued on Thursday afternoon read.
The statement, which says this is a “significant shift in the operations of the Police Force,” further describes Towuru as, “a seasoned officer with extensive experience in various capacities, has been recognized for his dedication and exemplary service to the Force. His posting to FCID comes at a critical time as the department continues to strengthen its capabilities to tackle complex criminal investigations and improve crime management across the nation.”
“The IGP emphasizes the importance of leadership and effective policing in the fight against crime and expresses confidence in the abilities of the newly posted senior officers to lead their respective teams with integrity and diligence,” the statement read.
