Staff of the defunct Institute of Technology and Management (ITM) Ugep are currently protesting the non-payment of salaries since January after the Cross River State government communicated the handover of assets and facilities to the Federal Polytechnic, Ugep.
Established in 2012, the state began the process of handing over assets, facilities, among others to the newly established Federal Polytechnic, Ugep, FPU.
However, following the communication of the handover in January, staff who were told they will be absorbed by the Polytechnic, are yet to be paid salaries despite continuing work.

Also, the FPU has since moved most operations from its old temporary site along Ugep – Itigidi road to the site of the defunct ITM.
And, on Monday, staff decided to travel over 100 kilometers to Calabar, the State capital to protest.
Upon arrival, some Union leaders were invited inside to wait for the Governor, Bassey Edet Otu, while other members continued protesting at the gate with security officials instructing them not to obstruct traffic flow into the office.
The protest follows an earlier one at Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area, where the Paramount Ruler, Obol Ofem Ubana Eteng addressed them and said the Governor wasn’t aware of their challenges.
