Amid Military Coup, President Tinubu Retires Service Chiefs, Cross River- Born Major General Spared

Amid rumors of planned military take over of Nigeria’s seat of government, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reshuffled the nations military service chiefs.

“I have approved changes in the hierarchy of our Armed Forces to further strengthen Nigeria’s national security architecture,” President Tinubu said in a release he signed and released by himself on Friday, October 24, 2025, in Abuja.

In the release, Tinubu announced that General Olufemi Oluyede is appointed as Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General W. Shaibu becomes Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke is Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas is the new Chief of Naval Staff, while Cross River -born Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye retains his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

He lauded the efforts and services of the outgoing service chief, while charging the incoming chiefs to display professionalsim in fighting insurgency in the country.

“I thank General Christopher Musa and the outgoing Service Chiefs for their selfless service and dedicated leadership, and I charge the new Service Chiefs to deepen professionalism, vigilance, and unity within our Armed Forces as they serve our nation with honour.
