The Cross River State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has confirmed a robbery incident at a guest house in Calabar, the State’s capital which occurred on Friday night.
The robbery occurred at a guest house within the Ambo/Mbukpa axis at about 10:19 PM.
A statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo on Saturday says contrary to information circulated on social media that several female occupants were attacked, “armed men scaled through the fence, forced their way into the room occupied by a man and his wife and dispossessed them of two mobile phones and a power bank.”
Also, the Police said it arrested one Emmanuel Ekpo, 25 who resides at 8 Miles for his inability to explain why he was within the premises and took to his heels. He had “two wraps of substance suspected to be Indian Hemp,” when he was searched.
The Police said he is, “currently helping police investigation.”
The statement says the Commissioner of Police, Rashid Afegbua “urges members of the public to disregard the sensationalized social media report.”
Reiterating the command’s commitment to maintaining peace, the Police appealed social media handlers to, “always verify from the Police, crime reports circulation so as not to send a wrong message to tourists and investors who know Cross River State to be the most peaceful and safest in the Country.”
