Calabar Municipal Chairman Shuts Down Revenue Committees, Set Up New Team

Residents and business operators in Calabar Municipality are set to witness a major shift in local revenue administration following the dissolution of all revenue management committees by the Chairman of Calabar Municipal Council, Rt. Hon. James O. Anam.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman, Oqua Etim, dated January 1, 2026, stating that the dissolution took effect from Wednesday, December 31, 2025, bringing an abrupt end to the activities of all existing revenue committees operating within the municipality.

Officials of the dissolved bodies have been directed to immediately hand over all council documents and property in their possession to the Revenue Officer.

In a decisive move to stabilize and reorganize revenue collection, the council chairman also approved the constitution of a 13-member Revenue Mobilization Committee to oversee revenue matters across the municipal area.

The newly constituted committee is chaired by Ntufam Divine Edim, with the Supervisor for Finance and Internal Affairs, Hon. Henry Okon, serving as Alternate Chairman. The Director of Finance and Supplies, Mr. Eyo Effiom Ephraim, functioning as the Secretary.

Other members of the committee include the Supervisor for Humanitarian and Social Welfare, Elder Francis Effiom; the Special Assistant on Revenue, Mr. Ekeng Duke, Captain Otu Ita, Hon. Arit Effiom, Mr. Shedrack Ikpeme (the Revenue Officer), Mr. Ignatius Okon, Hon. Ntete Ita, Chief Etim Okon, Hon. Ekpenyong Iso and Mr. Nsikak Ekpo.

The council further issued a stern warning to revenue contractors and agents, stating that anyone found operating at any revenue outlet without authorization will be arrested and prosecuted in line with existing laws regulating revenue collection in Calabar Municipality.

The council reaffirmed its resolve to enforce transparency, accountability and lawful revenue practices in the interest of orderly governance and public confidence.
