The Cross River State Government has reduced traffic offences from 35 to four in a move aimed at easing the burden on transport operators and improving the ease of doing business in the state.

Speaking in his office on Tuesday, 20th January , 2026, the Chairman of Commercial Transport Regulatory Agency, CTRA, in Cross River State, Mr. Efa Nyong said the agency would largely maintain existing policies while introducing improvements focused on driver welfare and ease of doing business in the state.

Nyong also disclosed that drivers in their 60s as well as female commercial drivers are exempted from paying registration fees and operational levies across the state.

“Female commercial drivers are also granted free registration and allowed to operate without paying any regulatory fees, ” he stated.

According to Nyong, the decision to reduce offence was necessitated by the prevailing economic realities faced by drivers and transport operators.

He listed the four offences as refusal to register a vehicle, refusal to purchase the daily operational toll tickets, overloading, and failure to use seat belts.

The CTRA chairman said all other offences, including broken windscreens, were removed to reduce harassment and promote smoother transport operations in the metropolis.

Mr. EFA said offenders are to pay fines ranging between ₦5,000 and ₦10,000 on any of the four offenses as stipulated on the official enforcement chart.

He disclosed that the agency was finalising an insurance scheme to compensate families of registered drivers in the event of death.
