Navy Arrests Fake Naval Officers In Cross River

By Kelvin Ololo

Two suspects accused of impersonating officers of the Nigerian Navy have been arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police Force in Calabar.

The suspects, identified as David Aleji and Francis Isaac, were transferred to the police by Naval authorities after preliminary investigations into their activities.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Cross River State, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, said findings from the investigation revealed that the two men had been falsely parading themselves as serving Naval personnel.

According to him, David Aleji allegedly paraded himself as a Lieutenant of the Nigerian Navy, while Francis Isaac posed as a Midshipman, both claiming to be active members of the Naval service.

Eitokpah explained that during interrogation, the suspects admitted that the Naval uniforms and accessories in their possession were purchased, while the identification cards they used were produced by them.

Items recovered from the suspects include military-related materials such as a jungle hat and a pair of boots, which they allegedly used to support their false claims of being officers of the Nigerian Navy.

The police spokesperson disclosed that the suspects will be arraigned in court on one-count charge of impersonation.

Authorities have warned members of the public against impersonating security personnel, stressing that such acts constitute a criminal offence under Nigerian law.
