Angry Youths Set Suspected Armed Robbers Ablaze In Yala Local Government

Angry youths yesterday set a group of armed robbers ablaze in Okuku, Yala local government of Cross River State.

Withnesses at the scene told CrossRiverWatch that, the three suspected robbers who were armed with locally made pistols, waylaid traders from the popular Okuku market and dispossessed them of money and other belongings and in the process killed one of the traders.

One of the witnesses said the women were seriously brutalized and assaulted before being robbed of their belongings.

The robbery incident which was said to have occurred around 7pm involved three boys from Okuku and one boy from Ugaga all in Yala Local Government Area.

Although the armed robbery incident was said to have been successful, but luck ran out of the hoodlums when youths in the community swooped into action and began a house to house search which lead to their arrest.

According to the eyes witness, the youths took the robbers to the Head Chief of the community for ‘clarification’ after which the Chief handed the suspected criminals back to the youths who then set the three ablaze.

CrossRiveWatch gathered that by the time the police in Okuku got to the scene of the incident, the suspects had already been set ablaze. No arrest had been made at the time of filing this reports.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Hogan Bassey said the command had not received any briefing yet from the DPO in Okuku.
