Boki Born Bassey Abang Is New Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner

Cross River born Mr. John Bassey Abang, has taken over as the new Commissioner of Police in charge of Akwa Ibom State.

Mr. Abang hails from Bunyia Irruan in Boki local government area of central Cross River State.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom State command, Mr. Odiko MacDon says CP Abang who has since assumed duties replaced Mr. Adeyemi Ogungemilusi who has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of police.

MacDon, a Deputy Superintendent of Police said CP Abang who holds a B.Sc in International Studies from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, worked as a Commissioner of Police at the force headquarters in Abuja before his posting to Akwa Ibom.

Abang, who is the 24th CP in charge of Akwa Ibom State had enlisted into the police force as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on March 15, 1988 and has served in various positions and formations including the National Defense College.

The statement added that Mr. Abang is married with children.

Also, he becomes the second Cross Riverian under the leadership of the current Inspector General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris to head a State command after Obudu born CP Undie Jeremiah Adie who took charge of the Plateau State command on September 8, 2017.
