Civic Media Lab Train Journalists On Advanced Investigative Reporting In Calabar

Civic Media Lab (CML) has trained journalists in advanced investigative reporting in Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The training is a component of CML Local Investigative Reporting for Increasing Government Accountability and Transparency at the Grassroots Project.

Held at the secretariat of Association of Cross River Online Journalists (ACROJ), the facilitator Mr. Chikezie Omeje, presented two papers: the art and science of data-driven journalism and generating investigative story ideas and structuring your story.

He said investigative journalism is holding both public and non-public office holders accountable and science and data plays a key role in story delivery. Adding that investigative journalism is practiced anywhere corruption and evil abound and should always be of public interest in exposing the misdeeds.

The training was highly interactive, journalists were taught various ways of generating top investigative stories, structuring, writing techniques, data journalism among others.

Mr. Omeje reenphasized the importance of fact-checking in investigative journalism.

Earlier, the host, Comrade Archibong Jeremiah, CrossRiverWatch Managing Editor  after welcoming his colleagues stated that the workshop is geared towards widening participants’ horizons in investigative, data and science journalism.

He urged participants to utilize the opportunity and remain courageous in defending truth.
