They Are Out For War… BY AGBA JALINGO

All the marriage haters on my timeline have gathered in my inbox and they are trolling me. They are advising me back and forth. They have even created a messenger group and added me so they can nurture me.

I am not fighting with anyone. I just don’t want you people to enjoy the party alone. Let those of us who think opposite you, enjoy the party too. I do not have a perfect marriage. That is because there is no such thing as a perfect marriage. I have maintained at all times that there is nothing perfect in mortality. All marriages are works in progress till God calls the parties.

One obvious thing, even if many people have not noticed the trend, is that there is a movement, a very deliberate, intentional, and active global movement of some bitter humans, male and female, who are angry with marriage for reasons best known to them and want to destroy it the way we know it. They are consciously raising money and people who are working, promoting, and organizing workshops and seminars to attack marriage, with the intent to destroy what we have all known as marriage in all cultures of the world. Here in Nigeria, we have a legion of them already and social media is their turf and young adults are their target audience.

But we won’t allow you folks to continue to create that stinking narrative that marriage is a scam. Your life experience with relationships and marriages, whether it is the carry-over from your parents or distant relations or from your own personal encounter, cannot approximate the whole essence of marriage. It cannot be the sum total of what we should all think about marriage. Let’s put the alternative in the mix.

If you enjoy posting and relishing the break up of a few people, (they are actually less than 20 of these celebrities), and creating the impression that marriages are becoming scams, please allow others who think otherwise to also gladly, proudly, gallantly, ebulliently, fantastically, relish and flaunt pictures, videos, and stories of those who have worked hard to build and make their marriages to work. Young people need to read that too and know that marriage isn’t always an easy journey but #MarriageNoBeScam.

Na partners dey scam themselves.
