Communal Crisis: Police Arrest Prime Suspect Of Commercial Driver Killer, Trail Others In Cross River

The Cross River State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, says the prime suspect of a commercial driver killed in Obudu urban Local Government Area of the state has been arrested and others trailed.

A commercial driver, Agage Ternenge, is seen in a viral video gruesomely murdered by some mobs.

The incident which occurred on July 18, 2025, is suspected to be a fallout from a disputed land issue between Vandeikya in Benue State and Obudu Local Government of Cross River State.

The victim, a native of Mbanyam in Mbatyough Council Ward, Vandeikya LGA, Benue State, was reportedly attacked, stoned and matcheted to death while delivering a waybill to an individual in Obudu. A disturbing video of the incident, now circulating on social media, shows the inhumane assault carried out by the mobs.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, condemned the barbaric act and described it as a gross violation of fundamental human rights and the dignity of the victim.

Responding to the action, CP Rashid directed the Divisional Police Officer of Obudu Division to launch a targeted operation that led to the arrest of the suspect – one Adeshina Gilbert, a 35-year-old male from Abonkib, Obudu Urban, who is now in police custody.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, said efforts to apprehend additional suspects are ongoing, as the Command intensifies its manhunt to bring all perpetrators to justice.

The Commissioner while extending condolences to the family of the deceased, urges the public to remain calm and law-abiding while justice takes its due course.

Some communities in Obudu LGA of Cross River State and Benue State, have been at age-long communal tussles that have led to destruction of lives and properties in time past.
