The Management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) says its attention has been drawn to a fake circular circulating on social media, purportedly issued by the Office of the Registrar, stating that the ongoing industrial action by Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNICROSS Chapter has been suspended.
UNICROSS through the institution’s Media Team refuted that the circular directing students to resume for the second semester of the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday, 6 July 2026, is nothing but false, misleading, and did not originate from the University.
The varsity Management said they and the Cross River State Government are making concerted efforts to ensure the speedy resolution of the industrial action, as no official announcement has been made regarding the strike suspension.
The school averred that the fake circular does not have the authority or approval of the Registrar, Dr. (Mrs.) Catherine Osai, as its fraudulent nature is further exposed by the forged signature of Barr. Uno I. Ogban, whose tenure as Acting Registrar ended before his recent retirement from the service of the University.
“The use of his name and forged signature is a clear act of impersonation intended to deceive members of the University Community and the general public.”
The institution’s “Management strongly condemns this act of misinformation and warns those responsible to desist from impersonation and the dissemination of false information capable of causing confusion and disrupting the orderly administration of the University.
They called on members of the University Community and the general public to disregard the fake circular in its entirety, particularly the purported directive to students to resume on Monday, 6 July 2026, assuring that the
authentic information on the suspension of the strike will be disseminated through authorized channels and the University’s official communication platforms at the appropriate time.
