The Cross River State Government has acquired no fewer than 50 vehicles to strengthen the security infrastructure findings by CrossRiverWatch reveal.
The vehicles which include about 22 units of Isuzu 240 C/C Base+ 4X4 special utility vans and 30 units of 2014 model Kia Rio vehicles CrossRiverWatch gathered is meant for security purposes.
The Isuzu vans arrived earlier, about two months ago and metal workmen were brought in to weld in a shield and seat for the booth space as is commonly seen in utility vehicles used by security officials in the country.
The completed vans fitted with amber lights and sirens are currently on display at the Government House Calabar.
One was used as the pilot vehicle in the convoy that was used to convey the wife of the governor, Dr. Linda Ayade, who was accompanied by the wife of former head of state, General Abdusalam Abubakar and his daughter who is the wife of the current governor of Niger State.
The Kia Rio vehicles were delivered two weeks ago with speculations rife that they are meant for appointees.
However, a month ago, the governor directed a scene of “Ingress and Egress” from the Kia Rio by 5 security aides to test the time required for agents of the newly created Homeland Safety and Security Agency to combat crime.
One of the Kia Rio which is displayed at the parking space of Government House Calabar has already been fitted with Amber light and siren fueling speculations the vehicles are meant for security agencies.
