Efiok Cobham, Deputy Governor, Cross River State

by crossriverwatch admin

Mr Efiok Cobham, the Cross River State deputy governor startled his household recently when he commanded his wife, Glory to kneel down and apologize to his protocol officer, Asikpo Okon for allegedly claiming that the protocol officer was in the habit of arranging girls for his boss.

A reliable source said Efiok’s wife and Asikpo have been having running battles since 2011 when, the erstwhile Cross River Broadcasting Cooperation, CRBC correspondent who was covering the government house was said to be having a relationship with the deputy governor.”Oga was very angry with his wife when she confronted Asikpo over the relationship between him and the CRBC girl that is covering his office”.

Our source said Asikpo who is a relative of Efiok had immediately gone to tell his boss his wife’s claim that he was now arranging the CRBC girl for him and the deputy governor angrily called on the wife and commanded her to kneel down and apologize to Asikpo or kiss the marriage goodbye “Madam felt bitterly humiliated but she had no choice than to kneel down and apologize instead of ending the marriage because she saw the anger and seriousness on oga’s face”.

Glory who has since the second coming of Efiok as deputy governor, been keeping low profile even when her husband was made Acting Governor following his principal’s sojourn in the United States for four months, has been loudly complaining to her friends and relatives that she and her husband have not been having the best of times.

According to sources, the woman has for some time been suspecting the husband of betraying their marital vows by frolicking with ladies and some of his female media aides during his frequent travels and she claims “That Asikpo who knew the difficult times she and Efiok were going through before 1999 and yet she stuck with the man could stab her in the back by arranging ladies for her husband”.

this is very bad of the governor. no matter what the wife might have said or done, she doesn’t deserve such a public disgrace. marriage should be honoured, even if the wife is a tiger. she deserve to know about the husband’s movement. she didn’t just accuse the aid, she’s sure of what is going on. our leaders always forget that they’ll not be in power for ever. once he leaves power, he will be reminded of this issue.

One if the man gave his wife the reason to suspect him, if the deputy was wrong, and if the aide corroborated, then both have lost their dignity before the woman and consequently should be humble before her. I strongly believe that the deputy acted out of shame, guilt, and confusion than out of defense.

What dignity of the aide? Why I do not condemn the aide, while I do not judge because I do not know the intricacies of the situation, I must say that the action of the deputy governor was reprehensible, callous, repressive, insulting, debasing and dehumanizing. I condemn it whole and entire. It is one of the indefensible action a man has committed against his wife. The integral of her humanity was not only abused, but now under attack by her hubby and the aide. I must tell you the action or query of the wife must have humbled the deputy hence the irrational action.

The Deputy Governor is a disgrace to his state. Am surprise that the women in Calabar did not protest. But this man will suffer, I wish he will share his experience with us in the next 10 years. The heart of a woman is deep.

Apology? Yes! In public? Definitely not. Humiliate my wife for being “a woman?” Nooooooo! There is life after politics. Family is more important than the trappings of political office.

@Frank Uzoma how can u say a thing lik dat, dat there is nothing wrong in wat he did? so its better to humiliate his wife in public and make up wit her later? dont u know he has lost respect from alot of people who tot he was a responsible man? was dat the only way he could handle the situation to save his political carrier? dont u know dat by dis simple act as u see it he has destroyed himself completely? which responsible woman do u think would want to ever vote for him again since he dont hv respect for his soul mate? mind u, charity as they say begins at home and he just succeeded in humiliating himself cos he is part of him since there is no way u can identify her without her husbands name.
@your name, am sorry for u too. infact am sad for the kind of mind set alot of guys have, I wonder wat ur girlfriends or wives will think of you if they see these kind of stupid commenmts u ar posting. Just imagine ur father publicly asking ur mum to kneel down in public and apologise to the guy that works for him or leave his house, pls dont be bias

The action of the Deputy Governor is typical of some of the political office holders in Nigeria. Some of them don’t even show good examples by disciplining themselves. How can a serving public officer descend so low as such, asking his wife to kneel for his aid. And some of these glorified “errand boys” called (Aids) should show greater sense of responsibility in their duties. Meddling into family matters of their bosses should be avoided to stem the tide of unnecessary abuses and public out-cry.

The woman is insecure, if the husband is unfaithful i don’t think he just started and the wife is in the know or maybe it became more obvious but for whatever reason the aid is not to be blamed, he is doing what he’s being paid for the man as irresponsible as he is could have handled the situation privately and not subject his wife to public redicule, he is not worthy to lead not even animals.

For your information, Udenwa slapped his wife Teresa in public for insulting his SSG Ignatius Umunna and there is nothing wrong if the deputy Governor ask his wife to kneel down and apologise to his aid. This man (aid) is key to his political survival. He can make up with his wife later.

The Glory of a wife deserves to be humiliated. Instead of standing with the husband in the onerous job as deputy Governor she is busy looking for who is frolicking with her husband. Perhaps there is something she has done in the past that is making the husband to be angry with her. Women should learn how to support their husbands instead of looking for excuse to antagonize them. This is Africa and not Europe or America and if you’re a wise woman, you should know your bounds.

SURE, THE PRESS HAS GIVEN US A WRONG IMPRESSION ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. BUT IN THE MIX OF THIS CONFUSION, I WISH TO KNOW WHAT IS WRONG IN KNEELING DOWN TO APOLOGIZE FOR A WRONG DID? PEOPLE WHO ARE SAYING HE IS USING HIS POLITICAL STATUS TO INTIMIDATE HIS WIFE ARE STILL GUILTY FOR SAYING A DEPUTY GOVERNOR’S WIFE SHOULD NOT BE MADE TO KNEEL AND APOLOGIZE TO A COMMON AID. THE PROBLEM IS, THE WOMAN NEVER SOLICITED FOR THE AIDS HELP TO SOLVE HER PROBLEM WHICH IS THE SPECULATED INFIDELITY ON HER HUSBAND’S PART) RATHER, SHE ATTACKED THE AID AND PERHAPS RUDELY, THINKING SHE CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FACT THAT HE IS A COMMON AID. SHE FORGOT THAT THIS AID MAY NOT BE INVOLVED IN THE SENSE THAT, IF THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR IS CULPABLE OF THE OFFENSE, THE AID HAS LITTLE OR NO RIGHT TO STOP HIM AND HE ONLY TAKES ORDERS.WE SHOULD BE GENEROUS IN OUR JUDGMENT KNOWING WE COULD BE IN SUCH SITUATION. MIND YOU, IN AFRICA, WE APOLOGIZE BY PRACTICE AND NOT BY LIPS. SO ALL THESE WOMEN WHO ARE ASKING FOR FREEDOM TO BE IRRESPONSIBLE SHOULD DO MORE WORK TO DIFFERENTIATE INTIMIDATION FROM CULTURAL NORMS.

How can a man go so low as to kneel ur beloved wife before ur aide (servant) on an issue of this magnitude? Why just deny the accusation and tell her to just say sorry to ur servant?Well?99 dayz 4 the thief 1 day 4 d owner.

Madam, why not also share the good and sweet part of your marriage with the public. Why serve us with the ugly and bitter part of it. The sweet part is always hidden. Have you always been kneeling for his aides? Please tell your husband and his political colleagues to lead CRS well, they are wives who are going through worst situations than yours due to bad governance in CRS. Sort your family issues internally and stop washing your dirty linens outside please

Effiok Cobham has been sleeping with wives of other men since he became Deputy Governor. Recently, one of them has been sent packing from her husband’s house. Meanwhile, the offended man is poised for action. The last is yet to be heard of this tale. Watch out!

@Your Name: its so sad to read your post, i really feel sorry for the myopic mindset that you have, so you really think that this was the best way Mr. Deputy had to go about his family business, even if she was wrong, how does what he has done now make it alright? She is not his child to be treated as he wishes, she is his helpmeet, to be treated as he treats himself, but now we see how he has no regard for himself.

  38. Roger May 31, 2013 at 11:23 am - Reply

He did that just to cover up his shame, now that it has gone viral who is going to knee for other person? I thought he has changed from his timid lifestyle. Imagine a man who called himself a learned man asking his wife to knee and beg his aide, what a shame? Anyway, madam thank you for saving your marriage, leave Effiok to dance naked with his foolishness.
