The Paramount Ruler of Bakassi LGA in Cross River State, HRM Dr. Etim Okon Edet has warned those agitating for secession from the country not to venture into Cross River State as they would be stoutly resisted.

Speaking with Daily Trust in Calabar yesterday, Edet who is Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council said he had instructed all his colleagues to watch out and identify anyone instigating secession.

“I have already put my traditional rulers on notice to watch out for any unknown face and movement and report for further action. No person of Cross River origin will join any pro-Biafra protest. We have gone past that stage of being used for anybody’s selfish interest .Come to think of it, when Bakassi was ceded, Biafrans did not protest. Our 76 oil wells taken from us, Biafrans did not join voice with us .They are on their own. We believe in the unity of Nigeria. That is our strength.” He said.

In a related development, the Cross River State Security Adviser SSA, Mr. Jude Ngaji has threatened that the state will crush any attempt by anyone or group of persons to hold any mass protest in Calabar without the permission of the police.

In a public announcement running on the state owned Cross River Broadcasting Corporation CRBC, Mr. Ngaji warned that any protest without police permission is illegal and will be crushed while those involved will be prosecuted.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the State Traditional Rulers Council has also congratulated the newly appointed Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani on behalf of the Council, adding that by his appointment, President Muhammadu Buhari, has again demonstrated unrivalled and unequalled love towards the people of Cross River State.

The monarch gave sent the congratulatory messages on his Facebook wall recently. The message reads: “Pastor Usani Usani, on behalf of the Cross River State Traditional Rulers Council, I wish to congratulate you on your well deserved appointment as Honorable Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and your subsequent deployment to the strategic Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

“By your appointment, President Muhammadu Buhari, has again demonstrated unrivalled and unequalled love towards the people of Cross River State. That Mr. President found a Cross Riverian worthy to be appointed Chief of Naval Staff and Head of Service of the Federation to assist in driving his change mantra is a mark of confidence reposed in our people.

“We are very confident that with your track record of uncompromising commitment to serve humanity, you shall bring real change to bear in the Ministry which had grappled with leadership challenges in the past, thus failing to meet the expectations of the citizenry of oil bearing region.

“We believe that under your tenure, the East-West road shall not only be completed but made to terminate in Calabar as approved by the Federal Government. We are equally hopeful that the Calabar-Oban highway, the Essien Town/Ekorinim land reclamation projects already initiated by your Ministry, shall be completed so that new ones can come on stream.

“We shall put you in prayers so that God Almighty shall continue to use you to effect the needed change in our State and country. Once again accept our congratulations and assurance of continued solidarity and support”, it concluded.
