A man simply identified as Joe electrician, on Thursday evening last week defiled a 14 year old (names withheld) residing along Ukwel-Obudu road in Obudu local government area located above 300 kilometers north of the southern port city of Calabar, the Cross River State capital.

The girl CrossRiverWatch gathered is the granddaughter of a former Security Adviser in the Obudu local government council who had once contested for chairmanship and currently lectures at the Federal College of Education Obudu, whose identity, a family source pleaded not to be named.

Joe Electrician was the chief electrician at Mega Hilton hotel, a hospitality facility belonging to the Ayade’s; the family of Cross River Governor, Benedict Ayade in Obudu.

He allegedly went into the girl’s room late in the evening with a knife and threatened to kill her if she shouts or tells anyone about his presence and had canal knowledge of her.

Mr. Joe Electrician is married with children and the next morning, probably sensing that he will be evicted from the community and punished, bought five crates of beer and invited youths in the Abonkib and neighboring communities and a few elders and pleaded for forgiveness.

Though angered, the youths refrained from mobbing him as it was declared he was an Asthma patient.

He was then fined the sum of NGN100,000 as punishment with the case buried.

The Police was said to be excluded from the proceedings and when this reporter contacted the Police Division in Obudu for enquiries, they feigned ignorance.

This reporter now made a complaint and the Police promised to follow up immediately on Friday but have since not replied this reporter’s call nor invited any of the affected parties for questioning.
