Peter Ibe, a constitutional lawyer, has emerged as the African Action Congress, AAC, candidate for the Akamkpa/Biase Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
Ibe was affirmed unopposed after the party adopted direct primaries. The exercise was held at the open field of Sacred Heart Primary School, Agwagune, Biase LGA, which served as the collation centre.
Announcing the result, the Returning Officer, Comrade Jonathan Ugbal, said Ibe’s unopposed emergence did not surprise the party because all registered members in the constituency participated.
“We use a digital process. Members’ IDs are scanned and elections are conducted in line with the party constitution and the Electoral Act,” Ugbal told journalists.
Ugbal added that the INEC monitoring team was impressed with the party’s conduct, especially for providing all items on the commission’s checklist.
On his part, Ibe had stated that his campaign will focus on converting the constituency’s resources into development.
He argues that Akamkpa/Biase contributes over 80% of Cross River’s natural resource revenue but remains underserved.
“Akamkpa/Biase feeds Cross River State. It is time for Cross River State and Nigeria to feed Akamkpa/Biase back. This mandate is not about a seat in Abuja. It is about bringing Abuja’s resources home,” his manifesto states.
He added that the manifesto will be refined through town halls across all 21 Registration Areas and 269 polling units in the constituency which is one of the eight federal constituencies in the State.
