The Cross River State Police Command has arrested three suspects in separate operations over alleged armed robbery and vandalism in Calabar Municipal and Akamkpa Local Government Areas of the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, 27th August, 2026, by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday, the Command said one suspect, identified as 35-year-old Edet Effiong, was arrested in connection with alleged armed robberies along Akwa Ibami Road, Calabar.
According to the police, armed men had, in June 2026, attacked different persons on separate occasions, dispossessing victims of about three Qlink 150 motorcycles and other valuables at gunpoint.
Following Effiong’s arrest, detectives of the Anti-Robbery Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) commenced intelligence-led operations, leading to the recovery of two of the stolen motorcycles.
The police said efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining stolen items and apprehend other suspects believed to be connected with the robberies.
In a separate operation in Akamkpa Local Government Area, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit, Sector 2, Akamkpa/Ugep, arrested two men over alleged vandalism and theft of facilities belonging to Akamkpa Quarry Limited, also known as Sterling Global.
The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Kelvin Ignatius and 29-year-old Arnold Okon, both from Obung Village, were arrested around Nsang Junction on Thursday following credible intelligence about suspected vandals in the area.
Police said three long iron poles suspected to have been stolen from the quarry were recovered from the suspects.
During preliminary questioning, the suspects admitted stealing the poles and disclosed their involvement in the theft of other company property, including diesel, engine oil and truck tyres.
The Command said investigations were ongoing to recover the remaining stolen property and identify other persons involved in the vandalism and theft.
The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, commended the operatives for their efforts and directed the investigating teams to intensify intelligence gathering, recover outstanding exhibits and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.
The police also urged residents to provide credible information on suspicious activities, particularly around critical infrastructure and industrial facilities, as part of efforts to prevent crime and protect lives and property.
