The management of the University of Calabar (UNICAL) has disowned an individual identified as “Prof. Odong”, who is allegedly impersonating a staff member of the institution’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit and demanding money from students to alter or improve their examination results.
The warning was contained in a notice issued by the Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Offiong Okon, who urged students to be wary of communications from the individual using the telephone number 08144115929.
According to the university, the purported “Prof. Odong” is not UNICAL staff, contrary to the claims being made to students.
Management advised students to disregard any request for payment or personal information from the individual, particularly requests allegedly intended to facilitate the alteration, improvement or manipulation of examination results.
The university also cautioned students against sharing their personal details, examination information, passwords or other academic records with unknown persons, stressing that such information could be exploited for fraudulent purposes.
Students who receive suspicious messages or approaches relating to the alleged impersonator are urged to report them to the appropriate university authorities.
The institution reiterated its zero tolerance for academic fraud, impersonation and other unethical practices, warning students to follow only recognized and official channels for matters concerning their academic records and examination results.
