Two brothers, Omini Eno Ibiang, 28 years old and Emmanuel Eno Ibiang, 26 years old, have allegedly hacked their step-brother, Bassey Eno Ibiang to death.

The incident which occurred in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State, was reported to the police on October 25, 2026, based on allegations that the suspects, Omini and Emmanuel, attacked the deceased over an allegation that he stole a bag belonging to their elder sister.

According to the complainants, the deceased was said to have been bound both hands and feet and inflicted a deep machete wound to the head.

He was subsequently taken to Ugep General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead, and his body deposited in the hospital mortuary.

According to the police, following the report, the two suspects were arrested and taken into custody while operatives visited the scene and commenced preliminary investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the respective roles of those involved.

The State Commissioner of Police, however, has warned against resorting to violence over allegations of theft or other disputes, urging members of the public to report suspected offences to the police and allow the law to take its course.

“The suspects remain under investigation and are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction. The Command assures the public that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and handled in accordance with due process,” the police said.
