We Have Been Cheated In Past Elections, No More Again – Otu, Mobilizes For Tinubu’s Visit

Governor Bassey Otu

Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state would no longer allow what he described as electoral cheating ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Otu stated this on Sunday, September 1, 2026, while addressing APC supporters at the Governor’s Office in Calabar, as the state prepares to receive President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his campaign rally.

The governor said Cross River was fully prepared to welcome the President, describing the planned visit as an opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the state and the Tinubu administration.

“We are ready to host Nigeria. When we say in this state, there’s no other party, it’s APC,” Otu said.

He said the President’s visit would attract people from different sections of the state, including elderly citizens, men, women and youths.

According to him, the APC in Cross River was looking forward to “cementing our covenant” with President Tinubu, whom he credited with supporting several of the achievements recorded by his administration.

“We are looking to cement our covenant with Mr. President. He has done well with us,” Otu averred.

The governor maintained that several positive developments recorded by his administration were made possible through the support of the President.

“Almost all the positive things I’ve done here are done by his support. So he’s coming to probably hear some of it and then know the future, how it’s going to be,” he added.

Otu also accused unnamed political parties and actors of cheating the APC in previous elections, insisting that the party would work towards securing an “18 over 18” victory in the 2027 elections.

“They cheated us in that election. It’s 18 over 18 this time. You can see the energy. You can see the electric,” he declared.

The governor expressed confidence that the level of mobilization ahead of the President’s visit demonstrated strong support for the APC in the state.

Meanwhile, Head the Directorate of Organization of the campaign council for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid, Senator Osita Izunaso, said he and his team had been inspecting preparations for the President’s arrival, commended the state government for its efforts.

“Cross River is ready. Mr. Governor, we want to thank you. We want to commend you for the effort you have put in that stadium,” Senator Osita said.

He described the atmosphere in the state as “electrified” and “charged” ahead of the President’s arrival, saying the level of mobilization already witnessed was only “the tip of the iceberg.”

Osita urged Cross Riverians to support President Tinubu and Governor Otu in the 2027 elections, calling for an APC victory across the various elective positions.

“Cross Riverians have been on the right path, and they must remain on the right path. They should vote for Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Vote for our Governor, 18 over 18. Vote for all our senators, House of Reps and House of Assembly. It’s APC all the way,” he said.

He expressed confidence in the party’s mobilization, saying there was no fear over its ability to attract supporters for the President’s rally.

“From what you have seen now, you can see that tomorrow will be a bomb and a blast. So we don’t have any fear about tomorrow’s mobilization. It has already been done.”
