The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Cross River State, Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, has described the reported suspension of corps members’ deployment to the state over the poor condition of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Obubra as a “national embarrassment” and an indictment of the state government.
Amb. Nkoyo stated this in a press statement signed by her spokesman, Mr. Archibong Eyo on Thursday, October 15, 2026.
She said the condition of the NYSC Orientation Camp reflects what she described as broader neglect of public infrastructure and the absence of a clear youth-development agenda by the state government.
The candidate noted that Cross River has a youth population of 1,109,927, arguing that facilities such as the NYSC camp could serve wider purposes if properly maintained.
ADC linked the condition of the camp to what it described as the decay and abandonment of educational facilities across the state.
Nkoyo said she would pursue a youth-focused development policy if elected, with young people positioned as a pillar of governance and development.
It proposed a comprehensive youth development and empowerment plan that would include the construction or rehabilitation of facilities such as the NYSC camp in Obubra, alongside sports, training and recreational programs.
The party said its proposed approach would treat public infrastructure as an investment in Cross River’s people and future rather than as an afterthought.
