By Faith Odezulu

The Cross River State Police Command has arrested 26-years-old suspect, Emmanuel Adoga, in connection with a reported case of alleged rape and armed robbery in Ogoja Local Government Area of the state.

The case was reported on October 9, 2026, through a petition submitted by the father of the 22-year-old survivor on her behalf.

According to the petition, the suspect allegedly threatened the survivor with a dangerous object, had unlawful sexual intercourse with her and forcefully took her Infinix Smart 7 mobile phone.

The petition further alleged that the suspect demanded an additional sum of ₦15,000 from the survivor.

According to the Police Command spokesman, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, following the report, police operatives commenced an investigation and arrested the suspect on October 12, 2026.

“The mobile phone alleged to have been stolen has been recovered. Operatives also visited the reported scene and obtained relevant photographic and electronic evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.”

Police say preliminary investigations are examining the allegation that the suspect used a hammer, allegedly presented as a firearm, to threaten the survivor.

“Efforts are ongoing to recover the suspected object and establish the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the police said, adding that the survivor has undergone medical examination and is receiving treatment, while the Command remains committed to protecting her dignity, welfare and privacy.

“Further investigative steps, including referral to the State Criminal Investigation Department where appropriate, will be undertaken in accordance with established procedures. Upon conclusion of the investigation, the case will be processed for further action in line with the law,” the release added.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, however reiterated the Command’s commitment to investigating allegations of sexual violence and other serious crimes professionally and in accordance with due process.

He urged the public to promptly report criminal incidents to the nearest police station and cautions the public against circulating names, photographs or other information capable of identifying or further traumatizing survivors of sexual violence.
