The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) State House of Assembly candidate for Yakurr 1 State Constituency, James Ibor, Esq., has charged Journalists and the ones in training to remain committed to truth, hard work and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

He gave the charge during an interactive session with journalism interns of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Cross River State, (UNICROSS), who are currently undergoing their mandatory Industrial Training program with CrossRiverWatch.

Speaking with the students at CrossRiverWatch’s office in Calabar, Barr. James shared important lessons about the role of journalism in society and the responsibilities that come with the profession.

The PDP candidate, Ibor, said journalism is what holds the world together – as a glue and as a dynamite, adding that the pen is mightier than the sword.

He explained that the rise and fall of great nations depend, to an extent, how people approach their responsibilities and carry out their duties.

The House of Assembly candidate described journalists as the light of the world because they help to inform, educate and enlighten the public about events happening around them.

Ibor encouraged the interns to take their profession seriously, stressing that anything that is not worth struggling for is not worth living for.

As a human rights lawyer, he took a dive into human rights and socialization discussions, encouraging the young Journalists-in-training to understand the importance of relating with people and building meaningful relationships in their professional journey.

In the highly interactive session, Barrister Ibor acknowledged the hazards associated with the Journalism profession but urged the cubs not to be deterred provided they were on the right track.

Highpoints of the engagement were questions and answer sessions, group photograph and networking.
