Cross River: Quarrel Between Neighbors End In Arrest As Police Recover Firearm

By Blessing Francis

A disagreement between two neighbors in Alok Community, Ikom Local Government Area of Cross River State, nearly took a dangerous turn when one of them allegedly pulled out a gun and threatened to kill the other.

The Cross River State Police Command says the suspect, 32-year-old Akan Constant, has been arrested and a locally made firearm with two live cartridges recovered from him.

According to the Police in a press release, a community leader raised the alarm on October 26, reporting that Constant had brought out the weapon during the argument. When people confronted him over it, he allegedly ran off with the gun.

Officers from the Ikom Police Division went to the community, tracked him down and arrested him. The gun and ammunition have been registered as exhibits.

Police spokesman ASP Eitokpah Sunday said Constant remains in custody while investigators work to establish exactly what happened and decide on the next legal step.

CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue used the case to caution residents against settling personal quarrels with threats or violence, sued for  lawful ways of resolving disputes.
