The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, visited the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) on Friday, September 4, 2026, and commission the newly established Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) ICT Experience Center.
The Center said to cost one (1,000,000,000) billion Naira, provides students with free access to laptops, desktops, and other digital resources, aiming to bridge the digital divide and equip young people with skills to compete globally.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu called on students to embrace the opportunities presented by technology.
During the ceremony, she turned to the Vice Chancellor of UNICROSS, Professor Francisca Bassey, to inquire about the number of ICT Experience Centers established under the Renewed Hope Initiative.
19 centers built, the VC responded but said not all have been commissioned. Senator Oluremi expressed optimism about the initiative, stressing the importance of exposing students to the realities of a technology-driven future.
“We are yet to commission all. We will commission two, but we are building so our students will know that this is what the future holds for them,” she said.
The facility is believed to provide students and members of the university community with access to modern information and communication technology facilities to support teaching, learning and digital skills development.
Mrs. Tinubu was accompanied by the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu and his wife Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu during the unavailing.
The ceremony brought together government officials including the Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Enoh, government appointees, UNICROSS Management staff and students.
