The Obanliku division of the Nigeria Police force has arrested one Mr. Sabastine Ayua for allegedly stabbing a Fulani herdsman to death.
Mr. Ayua is said to have stabbed the unknown herdsman on Thursday at about 10:00 PM with the motive unknown as at press time.
Ayua who is popularly referred to as ‘Nigga Raw’ in Bebi 4 community where the incident occurred is said to be receiving treatment from injuries sustained during his fight with the dead herdsman at a hospital in neighboring Obudu local government area under police supervision.
The local Police authorities declined comments. But, the Community Relations Officer to the Governor in Obanliku, Mr. Daniel Okono told CrossRiverWatch that there is no tension at the moment and assures the matter will be closely monitored.
This comes less than a fortnight after a clash between herdsmen and farmers in Ugaga community of Yala local government area which is less than 120 kilometers from Bebi left at least one injured and another herdsman dead.
Cross River Governor, Senator Ben Ayade told news men that the state is contemplating a controlled grazing law while the national president of the Ugaga Family Union, Barrister Tim Ugaga accused the Nigerian Army in Ogoja of fostering herdsmen.
