Universal Basic Education Commission Adjudge Ayade As Education Governor Of The Year

Those Present At The 18th Quarterly meeting of UBEC Management with Executive Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) at Dover Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State.

The Executive Governor of Cross River State, Senator Ben Ayade has been adjudged the best performing Governor in the basic education sector, by Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

According them Governor Ayade achieved this feat following the release of the matching grant intervention funds for four years (2012-2015), to enable the State access its matching grant account also recently released 2016 counterpart funds of about 1.04 billion naira, moving the State from zero level in May 2015 to the 1st position in 2017.

The Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Dr Hamid Bobboyi made this commendation during the on-going 18th Quarterly meeting of UBEC Management with Executive Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) at Dover Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State.

While urging all Executive Chairmen to key into the theme of the meeting “Model Schools: Promoting Quality and Excellence in the Basic Education Sub-Sector in Nigeria” for the betterment of education in Nigeria, he commended the Executive Chairman Cross River SUBEB, Dr Stephen Odey who he said is already moving ahead on this concept and is presently building a model school of International standard in Obudu, Local Government Area.

As part of the activities to mark the event, a courtesy call was paid on the Executive Governor of Lagos state, Ambode Akinwunmi who was duly represented by the Deputy Governor of the State, Dr Idiat Oluranti Adebule by a team led by the Executive Secretary UBEC, Dr Hamid Bobboyi, accompanied by UBEC management, Executive Chairmen of SUBEBs and Zonal Directors.

The meeting of UBEC Management with Executive Chairmen of State Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs) which is the highest policy making body in the basic education sector kicked off with arrival of guests on Sunday, 2nd of April 2017 and is slated to end on Wednesday, 5th April, 2017.

It is no surprise that the State is recording laudable heights in the basic education sector because of the passion Governor Ben Ayade has for the basic education sector and the commitment of the SUBEB Chairman, Dr Stephen Odey.

You would recall that the Executive Chairman SUBEB, Dr Stephen Odey was recently awarded “Best SUBEB Chairman South-South Geo-Political Zone” for his developmental strides in the basic education sector.
