The bill seeking the establishment of a Federal University of Technology in Ogoja Local Government Area of northern Cross River State has scaled through second reading in the Green Chambers.
The bill sponsored by Hon. Jarigbe Agom, member representing Ogoja/Yala federal constituency when presented on the floor of the House of Representatives Wednesday and was greeted with intense argument for and against.
10 members spoke for the establishment of the University using several indices to show that Ogoja actually deserves a Federal University while 6 others thought otherwise.
After over two hours of a heated session, Speaker Yakubu Dogara passed it to voice votes and those in support of the establishment of the University were in the majority.
The bill was then referred to the House Committee on Higher Education where Hon. Jarigbe Agom serves as the Deputy Chairman.
