The General Manager of Sparkling 92.3 FM Calabar, Mr. Effiong Nyong has called on the Cross River State Government to create an enabling environment for Journalists to carry out their constitutional obligation.
Mr. Nyong gave the charge in a press briefing as part of activities to mark the stations one year anniversary in his office where he said, “If the media is patronized, they could be a lot more information available to the people”.
Mr. Nyong further blamed those in authority for not creating the needed enabling environment for journalist in the State to enable maximum productivity.
According to him, “You will call on relevant authorities they will tell you that they don’t have capacity to talk to the press, where are the press going to get information from?”
As part of activities to mark the station’s one year anniversary which is to hold 10th May, 2019 an inaugural lecture with theme “The Role of the Media in the National Economy” which will be delivered by Prof. Offiong Offiong of the University of Calabar at 520 Kolanut Centre, 10am.
The lecture he said is to sensitize the Government on how to discover potentials in Journalism.
Also, there will be a novelty match between old boys of Hope Wadell Training Institution and St. Patricks Collage at Abraham Odia stadium UNICAL on 25th May 2019 by 10am, with the DJ festival slated for May 17th at 520 kolanut center by 5pm. and DJ festival.
In light of the one year anniversary the station has cut down fifty percent of it’s advertisement fee for the entire Month of May.
