Farewell Mrs. Gertrude Amokeye JD Agba (Nee Queen/Mma Nurse)

Late Mrs. Gertrude Amorkeye JD Agba is one beautiful woman. I have had the privilege to see her at her son’s home in Life Camp Abuja.

She is a fair complexion woman. Tall, and slightly bent forward and walks with a calculated swag. Late Mrs. Gertrude JD Agba was born on 26th of March, 1938. She attended Holy Convent Primary School, Obudu, now St. Charles Primary School, Obudu.

Thereafter, she got her grade II certificate as a midwife from Pacesetter Master Miserucorduea Hospital and Nursing School, Afikpo between 1958-1962.

She later got her General Certificate of Nursing from School of Nursing, Anua, Akwa Ibom State.

She did her Public Health Nursing at the prestigious University of Benin and later completed her General Nursing at the University of Calabar.

Upon completion of her certification as a qualified Nurse, she worked in Obudu and Obanliku Local Government Area.

She has volunteered in several diseases outbreaks and served as a major point of reckoning.

  • She volunteered for the fight against measles in children for UNICEF Sankwala in 1974.
  • Served as the frontier person for Planned Parenthood Program (Family Planning) in Obudu and Obanliku.
  • Served as public health officer against rashes, ringworms, eczema, and other tropical skin diseases in children for WASH, a UNICEF sponsored program African children.
  • Served as contact person for the fight against Beribri or Thiamine Deficiency and Kwashiorko, among African Elementary School children for WHO.

Mrs. Gertrude JD Agba retired from active Civil Service as Director of Health Services. She continued her humanitarian and community service until she was called to glory at the age of 83 years.

During her life on earth, she has impacted the lives of so many people as a mentor, custodian, foster parent, and guardian.

She mothered Goddy Jedy-Agba, OFR, Honorable Minister (State), Power, Peter JD Agba, a Civil Service Bureaucrat, Timothy JD Agba, Business Tycoon and Philanthropist, K-J Agba, Seasoned Politician, Business Tlycoon, and a renown appointee of the Governor of Cross River State.

Before her exit, she nursed 19 grand children and 2 great grand children.
