The Cross River Governor, Sen. Bassey Edet Otu has ordered the immediate stoppage of all scrap metal activities in the State.

Gov. Otu through his Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Darlington Edem said the action became imminent due to theft and vandalization of critical infrastructures.

The decision of the government was communicated through a press release Monday evening that reads:

The Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu has approved the immediate suspension of all activities of scrap metals in the state until further notice.

All dealers on scrap metals are, by this notice, advised to adhere strictly to this directive. Security agents have been mandated to deal decisively with anyone found flouting this directive.

Furthermore, all licensed scrap metal dealers are hereby advised to report to the office of the Chief of Staff to the Governor on Thursday 27 July, 2023 at 2pm, for necessary briefing.
