Teenage Girls Explore Opportunities In Tech With RRR App Innovation

Three teenage girls, Ofem Obasse-Ota Komomoh 14, Akingbade Olamide Felicia 15, and Bassey Theresa Okey 16 years, respectively, have emerged winners at a technology enhancement skill innovation program, Shenovate, co-founded by Mr. Elisha Agbama and Miss Joy Ofere.

The program is a platform that encourages females to participate in tech, Shenovate organized in collaboration with the University of Calabar’s Directorate of Alumni Affairs, is the maiden edition hackathon Annual Summer School of Code and Design with the theme “Empowering Girls in Technology”.

The trio clinched the top prize, grabbing one hundred and fifty thousand Naira (150,000) worth of scholarships for the three members each.

Also a mouth-watering partnership with different companies to develop their innovative waste management innovation skill.

The program aims to empower girls in technology with a mission and vision to bridge the gender gap in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and mathematics) field.

It targets females of all ages who are committed, ready to learn and innovate. This involves students of higher learning and among others.

The 2nd place winners will smile home with N100,000 worth of scholarships each for the 3 members while the 3rd place will take home N50,000 worth of scholarships.

Miss Ofem Vanessa of team Bangtan Girl with the first runners-up of the eight teams, presented a Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce App that deals with waste production.

“We presented our App RRR which stands for Recycling, Reuse and Reduce the rate of waste production; it has many features like the aic feature, donation feature, and more. 

“But first, our problem is poor waste management and land pollution in Nigeria so we created an App RRR. So, our App RRR is basically an app that is to help reduce the waste product in Nigeria, especially on land.”

Miss Edim Goodness John, of Global Team said the program the program is all about bridging the gaps between the male and the female gender in the aspect of education and teaching the girls more about engineering and many other areas. She noted that Shenovate works with all ages and is operational in Nigeria and seek to expand to other African countries and Rwanda.
