Venatius Ikem Esq. a former national publicity secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged as the Chairman in Cross River State.
Unopposed, Mr. Ikem scored over 2,000 votes according to the Chairman of the convention planning committee.
The State Congress has been delayed since March 2020 following disagreements between Mr. Ikem and some national assembly members from the State and the Governor, Ben Ayade which contributed to his exit from the PDP earlier this year.
Mr. Ikem is said to have indicated interest to become Chairman earlier than a former acting Governor of the State and lawmaker, Frank Adah who stepped down earlier this week as well as an ally of Mr. Ayade, Alphonsus Eba who later defected to the All Progressives Congress with the Governor.
Eba is said to have been Ayade’s favorite.
