CrossRiverWatch has compiled different footage from the free for all at the September 30, 2021 election for the leadership of the Nigerian Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
The disagreement between Orok Duke, a former lawmaker and one time Chairman of the Cross River Sports Commission and the Director of Maintenance in the Commission, David Ekanem Ekpenyong over who the actual delegate is, led to the free for all.
While Mr. Ekpenyong produced a letter from the State’s director of sports claiming he was the actual delegate, Mr. Duke said the constitution empowered him as delegate being the Chairman of the State’s Table Tennis Association.
The argument stalled the accreditation process with Ekpenyong escaping lynching.
The elections were conducted at the Media Center of the National Stadium.
Initial reports say Ekpenyong was attacked for trying to bribe delegates to vote against Mr. Duke, an allegation he denied.
“He was not the delegate, he brought boys to attack me and seize the letter which recognized me as the delegate,” Ekpenyong said.
Duke could not be reached for comments as several calls to his line were either not answered or did not connect.
Meanwhile, Ekpenyong also denied claims that he was mobilized with NGN2 million by the State to go bribe delegates since Mr. Duke refused to defect alongside the Governor to the All Progressives Congress.
He also claimed that the letter was produced based on the directives of the current State Chairman of the Table Tennis Association, Inok Edim whom he said was indisposed.
