Yala Students Body Inaugurates New Exco

The National Association of Yala Local Government Students, University of Calabar (NAYLOGS – UCC) has inaugurated its new executive committee members.

The event which took place yesterday at the University Students Parliament Chamber, Malabor Republic,University of Calabar was chaired by Mr Onah Ochelebe who is also the confidential secretary to the University Registrar.

In his opening remark, the chairman of the occasion blamed the organizers for not doing their home work properly. According to him, “I expected to see many great men and women from Yala in an occasion like this such as the incumbent Speaker of the CRSHA and other dignitaries, but the reverse is the case.” He urged the newly inaugurated exco to work hard to unite all Yala folks including those who have graduated.

The chairman who is also the Secretary of Yala Progrssive Union (YPU) Calabar branch congratulated the new excos and pledged to influence any form of genuine assistance the students association may need from the YPU.

In his welcome address, Comrade Afufu Anthony who chaired the election committee congratulated the elected excos and commended them for their peaceful disposition before, during and after the election.

Comrade Afufu adviced the newly elected executives to work hard in order to beat the record of past executives. He enjoined them to ensure inclusiveness and unity amongst all Yala Local Government Students in Unical. He also urged them to aim at taking Yala to greater heights.

During the oath taking, Barr Odomekon who administered the oath cautioned the new excos to take it seriously and work in line with the oath they have taken. He admonished them not to at any point derail from the pledges they are making in the presence of people.

Comrade Ogar Declan, an ex-officio member of the association who also graced the occasion advised the newly inaugurated exco to keep the flag flying.

He narrated the recent experience of the association and begged the new excos not allow NAYLOGS-UCC die in their hands. He offered to continue to help the association morally and otherwise.

The NAYLOGS – World Wide President, Comrade Ogar Patrick also advised the new excos to work with maturity and understanding while maintaining faith and unity.

In his acceptance speech, the new NAYLOGS – UCC President Comrade Omligbe John promised to abide by the content of the oath and enjoined other exco members as well as NAYLOSITES to join hands with him to deliver on his manifesto and the mandate bestowed on him as the President.

He said: “First of all, allow me to express my deep gratitude for the great honour you have bestowed on me today as the President of the National Association of Yala Local Government Students – Unical Chapter. At the same time, I am delighted to share this moment with all those who have cancelled other important schedules to honour this invitation”.

He continued: “Today marks an important event which usher us into a new dispensation in the chronicle of our association. The strong spirit of Aluta and that of cooperation, both at personal and institutional levels, which are equally very much a reflection of our shared concerns with the challenges currently facing us. I shall be pleased to say that the National Association of Yala Local Government Students will focus attention on many of these challenges in its new strategic plans. For example, it is hoped that a commitment to unity of purpose, forging a common front will either achieve our goals or bring us closer to our collective will”.

“I will therefore use this medium to appeal to all those who are disheartened and disgusted to re-activate their comradeship as well as the warring factions to lay down their Aluta weapons so that it will be easier for us to speak with one voice”.

The president said that “As part of the new strategies, every NAYLOGITE is expected to have a facebook account and belong to the national group: YALA LGA STUDENTS IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS. This group will enable us bring NAYLOGITES to the comfort of our home and channel most of our vital information effectively”.

He on behalf of the new executives appreciated the past excos, stakeholders, election committee, and everyone who has contributed in one way or the other to the success of the election.

The high point of the event was the oath taking ceremony by new excos which include Comrade Omligbe John, President, Comrade Cletus Gladys, Vice President, Ogar Linus Akobi, Secretary General, Ebi John Odey, Financial Secretary, and Upla Felix Onah, Director of Information.

The event also had in attendance the Vice President of the Students’ Union Government, Unical, Comrade Arene Ituen, the Secretary General of the SUG Unical, Comrade Ogar Christopher, Unical-SUG, Director of Sports, Comrade Julius Iyoma, Comrade Ohobu Agrinya and many other respected sons and daughters of the Yala LGA.
